Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
(Colossians 3:2)
LORD Jesus, we praise You, for You are the Word of God. You have come down to the earth to teach us the instructions of the Father. Forgive us, O God, we pray, whenever we do wander and drift away from Your Counsel. Guide us by Your Holy Spirit to set our minds on things above. The wisdom and understanding that are from You are way more important than all the things of the earth. Help us, precious LORD. Help us this year to grow in the knowledge of Your Word, and lead us to set our minds on things above. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.
We are nearly three weeks into the new year. How is your Bible reading coming along so far? Are you diligently seeking the LORD in your daily devotions? Good! Keep going! Or, are you having trouble getting into a routine (again) this year? Do not despair! Keep working at it–one step at a time!
Bear in mind that earthly things always try to come first in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, and even at night. Be aware of these distractions, and set your priorities straight.
How about checking your weekly tasks and schedule? When is a good time for you to draw back and spend time with God? Is it early in the morning before everybody gets up? Or could it be just shortly after all of the family members left the house? Perhaps you could find a good time slot in the afternoon before the family returns home?
Keep it simple.
Yes, be diligent in spending time with God. Do not pressure yourself, however, to work off a daily list of devotional readings, prayers, and going through a certain amount of chapters in your Bible every day. Keep it simple. This is not a matter of quantity and how much you can get accomplished each day. Instead, spend quality time with your LORD. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.
Take time to set your mind on things above, and listen for God’s Voice today.
