The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
(Psalm 19:7)
We praise You, LORD Jesus, that we can read the Bible today. Forgive us, O God we pray, whenever we neglect to read and pray Your Word. Open our eyes to see how wonderful it is to sing praises to our God. Your law, O LORD, is perfect. It not only converts the soul, but it will make us wise, too. Your testimony is sure, indeed. Stir our hearts, O God we pray, that in 2025 we may desire Your Word more than ever before. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.
God’s Words In Your Heart
Beloved, we need to hear, read, and pray God’s Word. We should also memorize parts of Scripture and sing verses coming from the Bible. What God says has to not only reach our minds but also our hearts.
One key to successful memorization of the Bible is repetition, meaning, repeating the words over and over and over again. Another way to put parts of Scripture into our hearts is to sing the words to a simple melody. God tells us to, see Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16 where it says,
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom,
teaching and admonishing one another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Getting Into the Habit
How do you get into the habit? First, remind yourself that it does take time and effort. Begin by making the first step, commit to reading the Bible in 2025. Withdraw to your chosen place to meet with God. Set aside a time when you will, on a regular basis, get into His Word.
Staying In the Habit
How do you stay in the habit? Jay Adams writes in his booklet Godliness Through Discipline that it will take about three weeks until we are used to the new formed habit, and it would take another three weeks to make it part of us.
Not Giving Up the Habit
Jay Adams also points out that if we do not get instant success we will give up. Whenever we expect an immediate change of things, he says, we will get discouraged. We ought not to give up and need to stick with it.
Today’s verse is in my heart. Hallelujah! My husband read it to me (and the following verses, too) on Monday. And you know what it did? It immediately got me into singing the song “The Law of the LORD Is Perfect” which I will talk about in another day’s post.
Get into the habit of reading the Word of God today.
