Bible Reading in 2025 – Part 4

Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them.

(Luke 12:37)

LORD Jesus, we praise You, for You make our salvation possible. Forgive us, O God, we pray, whenever we keep postponing to draw near to You. Open our eyes to see that our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. Help us to get ready for Your return, and enable us to keep watch. Guide us to discover how and when to spend more time with You and in Your Word. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.

I’m afraid that some time ago I murmured. There was a lot of complaining going on of not having time for this and that. Then, due to not paying enough attention to what I was doing, I had an accident. I ended up having to spend a lot of time on the couch, feet up, and forced to rest. Ouch! I’m not saying, that God has punished me due to my murmuring. No! He has, however, allowed this to happen while still watching over me and directing my path–Hallelujah.

I faced worse than this accident, and once I was over the “Why me?” struggle, I was ready to learn from it. As during other trials before, this was more or less a wake up call to draw closer to the LORD. I needed to be reminded to keep watch.

It is so easy for us to remain in a state of focusing too much on things of this earth, is it not? What are the news? Where are we going to for our vacation/s this year? Will Maria invite us to her birthday party in September? When do we set our minds on things above, though?

How much time do we spend in God’s Word? “I don’t have time to read,” some of you might say. Okay, but how about that: I only takes about 5 minutes to read through an average chapter of the Bible. Let me ask you this, “Could you not make just 5-10 minutes a day top priority to read the Word of God?” Just 10 to 20 minutes a day will get you through reading the Book of John in 1-2 weeks time!
