And these words
which I command you today
shall be in your heart.
(Deuteronomy 6:6)
LORD Jesus, we praise You, for You have not left us without any counsel. You have sent us the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, to guide us throughout this life on earth. Forgive us, O God, we pray, whenever we search for the wisdom of the world. Help us to hear Your Voice. Guide us to read Your Word. Let us understand what it is that You have commanded us to do. Enable us to study Your Word, to put it into and to keep it in our hearts. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.
In my post God’s Word In Your Heart, I shared a few thoughts on how powerful the quoting of Scripture can be. The words in that post came from Deuteronomy 6:4-9. I heard these verses quoted to me in church over and over and over again. They are in my heart. Every Sunday, our Pastor’s wife read them to us after the last of the first four worship songs. These were not the only verses, though, that the Pastor and his wife quoted and taught us. I learned the verses not by attending lessons or studies, but by hearing them over and over and over again.
Teach the Word of God: Always and Everywhere
Deuteronomy 6:7 tells us to teach the Word of God to our children. The verse says to talk about the words when we are at home, when we are on our way, when we lie down, and when we rise up. We need to teach our children God’s Word everywhere and all the time. Our children must hear it over and over and over again.
Repetition is an amazing tool to get the Word of God into our own and into our children’s hearts. First, we have to know what these words are. Second, we have to know the One who commands us. Third, we have to get the words into our own hearts, so we can teach them to our children. Repetition is the best way to do just that.
Let God’s Word flow richly into your heart today.
