Grandma’s Influence

I thank God,
whom I serve with a pure conscience,
as my forefathers did,
as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day,

greatly desiring to see you,
being mindful of your tears,
that I may be filled with joy,

when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you,
which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice,
and I am persuaded is in you also.

2 Timothy 1:3-5

LORD Jesus we praise You for all the godly people which You have brought into our life. Forgive us, O God we pray, whenever we long to cling to worldly-oriented people and the things of this earth. Protect our hearts, we plead, against those influences that try to get us off the right Path. Enable us, precious LORD Jesus we ask, to set our mind on things above. Let us study Your Word so that we, through Scripture, become more and more complete and thoroughly equipped to know and to do Your Will. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen.

After reading Monday’s blog post (Grandma’s Book) one of my readers sent me an email, writing

“Your grandma must have been a very godly person.”

Yes, my Oma has been such a wonderful person and her influence still shows in my life now and then. True, she made sure that her children and her children’s children did attend the Lutheran Church. She also made sure of each one’s Baptism and Confirmation. All of that is good and has brought along a tremendous blessing upon the family, but I wished there would have been more.

Remember the following paragraph that is found inside Grandma’s Book post?

I still remember, how I used to crawl out of Grandma’s bed, tiptoed to the door of the family room, and watched her sitting at her dining-room table, reading her Bible or a small piece of paper.

What an opportunity this could have been for the two of us to learn more about God’s Word and how to teach it to the younger generation. As I mentioned on Monday, though, as soon as my Grandma noticed me standing at the door of the living-room she would sent me back to bed.

We need to hear about God’s mighty Acts. We need Hope. We need Love and the God that is Love. And we need to know the Truth!

And you shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free.

John 8:32

Beloved, this is crucial. Time is precious. Do not miss any kind of opportunity to teach the younger generation God’s Word today.
