When to Read Your Bible

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable
for doctrine,
for reproof,
for correction,
for instruction in righteousness,

that the man of God may be complete,
thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2. Timothy 3:16-17

LORD Jesus we praise You for another new day which You have made. Thank You, LORD, that we can share all of our concerns, the small and the big ones, with You. Forgive us, O God we pray, whenever we neglect to put You first in our life. Drive us back into Your Word, especially during times of doubt, hardships, and tough questions, that we may search the Scriptures for answers and guidance. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.

The Word of God is profitable for so many things. It is not, and never, ever will be, outdated, but is responsible to make us complete and to thoroughly equip us for every good work.

You want good, solid doctrine? >> Find it in God’s Word.
You are looking for the sort of instruction that works? >> Find it in God’s Word.

Then it is also profitable for reproof and correction of others and of ourselves. Ouch!

Isaiah 37-39 is part of the reading according to today’s Bible Reading Plan (see sidebar to your right). Did you know that Isaiah chapters 36-39 are almost identical with 2 Kings 18:13-20:19? Words, sentences, and especially whole paragraphs repeated in God’s Word should always draw our attention.

In Isaiah 37 we find out that, even though the people of God seemed to be on the right path, they were still facing hardship.

Matthew Henry comments in chapter 36 of Isaiah that,

Hezekiah was reforming, and his people were in some measure reformed; and yet their country is at that time invaded and a great part of it laid waste.

He continues to write that,

It is an easy thing, and very common, for those that persecute the church and people of God to pretend a commission from Him for so doing.

Is it not often so that, whenever hardship strikes, we will ask ourselves “what have we done to deserve this” and “why would God allow such a thing?” On the other side, whenever people pretend that they have heard of or have been sent by God, we are tempted to accept that as truth without even questioning it, are we not?

Even, no especially, during tough times, we need to stay very close to Christ the LORD — reading, praying, and singing His Word.

Devote yourself to seek God’s Word and Will today.
