The Transformation of the Kitchen

And do not be conformed to this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Romans 12:2

LORD Jesus we praise You for You are the Author, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the One who has begun a good work in us, and the One who will complete it in the end. Hallelujah! Forgive us, O God we pray, that we so often want things to happen the way we planned them to go about. Enable us to see and to trust in Your Purpose, Your Comfort, Your mighty Work, for You alone are able to perform. You are the One who can create just by speaking the Word. You are the One who can reach out to heal and to change things, for all things will work out together for good for those who love You, LORD Jesus. Help us to love You more and more with each new day. You are the One who has the name that is above all names, and in Your great Name is Salvation. Guide us to trust You that we are in Christ, that we are a new creation, that the old things have, indeed, passed away, and that all things have become new. Help us in the transformation of our body, soul, and mind. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

A question some of my friends had asked was,”Couldn’t you just paint over it?” I’m afraid not since we are only renting at the moment. If I would own this kitchen then I would give it a complete makeover, but that is not possible right now.

A short while ago I shared my burden with a young woman at our church. I told her that I would send her some pictures of my bright orange kitchen, and she said, “Yes, please do.” She replied to my text message and photos by saying that she really likes my kitchen. 🙄 Then she called it a ‘Retro-Kitchen’ and that was the clue, you know, because this helped me to completely change my way of thinking about this kitchen.

Over the past seven months I have tried to transform this kitchen into something that it was not—and was not going to be. I wanted it to become a cozy farmer’s kitchen, hence the trying of bringing in the color red and perhaps some red-white-squared curtains. It should have ended up having an antique oak table and chairs in its midst and/or one of these old-fashioned German like corner seat benches. Well, the dream is in no way becoming a reality for me—not right now!

It is what it is. 😇

I had to refocus and my friend, Naoise, helped me by giving me the right clue. My current kitchen is made in a Retro-Style and its color is of an burnt-orange. That’s the kind of kitchen I have at the moment and that’s how it needs to be decorated! One of the colors that really worked out well is a dark gray.

I bought a rug and a square table in that color, yes, retro-style, and I allowed the gray-colored sofa in there to return to its original color. The curtains at the windows and the entrance door are in a matching gray as well. In the end I’m quite pleased, because the gray diverts the focus away from the burnt-orange.

Be transformed by the renewing of your mind today.
