The Reformed Kitchen – Part 2

If then you were raised with Christ,
seek those things which are above,
where Christ is,
sitting at the right hand of God.
Set your mind on things above,
not on things on the earth.
For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Colossians 3:1-3

LORD Jesus we praise You for this wonderful day, the day which You have made — long before this day has been called today. Forgive us, O God we pray, whenever we seek and set our mind on earthly things instead of things which are above. Remind us, precious Creator, that You have made us and that we are the sheep of Your Pasture. Let us put aside the anxious thoughts, the worries, the fear of man, and help us to put on the whole armor of God. Guide us to, in, and through Your Word today and forevermore. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen.

Winter was just about to be over, and the house had kept us dry and warm so far. What a blessing! Instead of being grateful for what God had provided, though, namely, an affordable home for us to live in, I had set my mind on all the broken things inside of it that screamed at us for attention. And, whenever one thing had been settled, another one appeared that called for maintenance or repair.

The main reason for my discontentment, however, has been the bright orange kitchen! When we had first viewed this home I thought I could just accept it and all would be okay. But, the longer I lived in this house the more I began to be quite unhappy with my kitchen. Something needed to change, and it was not going to be the color (for it is not possible, I’m afraid, to change it).

So, first revelation had happened: The kitchen is my problem! Then I had to repent of being so discontent and instead try to set my mind on things above. Do kitchens really matter in eternity? Now the problem was still there, but I was finally ready for what happened next. You will read more about that in Friday’s blog post.

Seek and set your mind on things above today.
