Sleepless Nights

Behold, bless the LORD,
All you servants of the LORD,
Who by night stand in the house of the LORD!
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary,
And bless the LORD.
The LORD who made heaven and earth
Bless you from Zion!

(Psalm 134)

LORD Jesus we praise You for You have made everything. This day is the day that You have made, and You have made it evening and morning. Forgive us, O God we pray, whenever we neglect to bless You, our Creator and Savior, the LORD who has made heaven and earth. Give us ears to hear, eyes to see, and a heart that loves Your Word. Help our unbelief and grant us the faith that can move mountains in Your name; but may all be done to Your glory alone. In Jesus’ powerful name we pray. Amen.

In my last post called “It Is Vain” I mentioned a Bible verse which says that the LORD will give His beloved sleep. Today’s post, however, is about sleepless nights.

Have you ever had one of these nights when you turn in bed, and you keep on turning from one side to the other and back again? What do you usually do then — during these sleepless nights? Is there a point when you give up and just get out of bed? At what hour do you find yourself giving up trying to sleep? Will you get up before midnight or do you keep on going until the early morning hours?

Sometimes, during these kind of nights, I keep on turning from one side to the other — especially if the hour is still late at night and not yet early in the morning. During other times I just give up, get out of bed — no matter what the hour — and prepare myself a cup of tea or coffee. I start off with a prayer and ask the LORD to speak to me through His Word. Then I grab my Bible, journal, and a pen, and I begin to read.

It usually does not take long before it dawns on me that I need to learn a specific lesson, act or do something a total different way, refocus on just how mighty God is.

These nights straighten me up and are bringing me back on track again. I just want to sing praises and shout for joy, for, once again, the LORD has blessed me through His Word. Hallelujah!

Get up and praise the LORD today.
