Heavenly Hugs

Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.

1 Peter 1:25

LORD Jesus we praise You for loving us with perfect love for You are Love. Forgive us, O God we pray, whenever we fail to see Your great Love for us. You laid down Your Life for us so that we may have life and have it more abundantly. Enable us to seek You early, to understand Your Word, and to do Your Will. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.

Years ago, my former pastor’s wife has sent me a card the size of a credit card with beautiful flowers and the following words on its front:

Hugs are the perfect gift.

It was the perfect gift I have received from her, and I treasure this card very much. You see, I love to hug friends and family members, and I guess I’m famous for that. One Sunday, for example, after letting go of the pastor’s wife of our local church, she said: “Goodness, you are a hugger, eh?”

Yes, for me this is one way to show my appreciation to others. There is something so special about hugging one of my sisters in a hearty manner.

I love to hug while my husband does not so much. Oh, don’t misunderstand, he surely loves me, this I know. He is just not so much into that physical kind of hugging thing; but he will hug me in other ways — like showing his appreciation by writing little love notes, or by giving me cute little teddy bears. This is one of them:

It sits by my computer all day, and whenever I look at it I “feel” very much hugged; and whenever I read the words on its heart I’m reminded of my husband telling these words to me.

My point is that there may or may not be hugs in heaven, and that is not important. The heavenly hug, Jesus’ reaching out to touch and change our life, is very different and by far more worth and loving than any physical hug could ever be. Everything here on earth, which may include hearty hugs, will some day come to an end, but the Word of the LORD endures forever!

Read God’s Word and praise His name today.
