The Comforter of the Widow and the Fatherless

The LORD watches over the strangers;
He relieves the fatherless and widow;
But the way of the wicked He turns upside down.

Psalm 146:9

LORD Jesus, we praise You for You are the God of all Comfort. Thank You for bringing people into our life who will walk with us when times are tough. Enable us, O God we pray, should we be those very people who are to bring comfort to the ones in need. Help and guide us in our thoughts, our prayers for them, and especially our actions. Let us do good unto them, never to our own praise, but for the glory of God who is the God of all Comfort — mighty to save, to heal and to bring Peace. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.

One of the very first Bible verses that has made it straight into my heart is:

He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?

Micah 6:8

The amazing thing is that I had to hear it only once, sung by one of our church members, to memorize it. You are right, I had to review the verse and song now and then so that it would continually stay in my memory and within my heart. Now, after a few decades, it has been anchored in my soul.

Do you have a favourite Bible verse and/or worship song? Is there a particular hymn that is dear to you because of its words and, perhaps, because it has a catchy tune? Music does make a difference in people’s lives doesn’t it?

One of the sweetest things that happened to me while I was living in the States, I was just facing one of the hardest times of my life, was when our congregation stood up and started singing a famous hymn. I did not know the words in English back then, but I was able to sing along (in German) to the tune of “Praise to the LORD the Almighty.” And tears rolled down my cheeks…

Precious one, beloved widow, dear fatherless child, if you are heartbroken this day, know that the Father of mercies, the God of all comfort, watches over you. Come to Him just as you are. He is in no wise limited, but He is able to reach out to you — by His Word, through people, songs, and in a very specific way in your life, too.

Draw near to Him and hear His Voice today.
