Adam first, then Eve

For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

(1 Timothy 2:13)

LORD Jesus, we praise You, our God and King. You know the beginning and the end and everything in between. Help us to understand what Your Word says, means, and wants us to do. Guide us in our daily praying, singing, and reading of the Scriptures. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.

Here the word FOR points to one of the reasons why a woman should learn in silence with all submission and why she should not teach nor have authority over a man. Let’s read today’s verse again:

For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

What is one of the reasons that woman is required to do what it says in verses 11-12? (Fill in the blank)

For _____ _____ _____ _____, _____ _____.

It was God’s choice and doing to make Adam first, so there is no reason for us women to get upset over this. God’s ways and thoughts are higher than ours. He has a purpose and plan for all creation, and He knows what is best for each one of us.

How could submission be good for us? We will talk more about that in tomorrow’s post. Let’s keep our focus on the creation order.

Women tend to get upset over verses like this. They might think that such a verse expresses that they are second-class people. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Would we consider the (royal) “crown” on the king’s head of lower quality than the fancy clothes he is wearing? The Bible says that the excellent wife is the crown of her husband (Proverbs 12:4).

Yes, woman was made after man and she depends on man. She was created to be his help-meet so that he would no longer have to be and accomplish things alone.

Listen to what Matthew Henry writes regarding the creation of the woman:

Eve’s being made after Adam, and out of him, puts an honour upon that sex, as the glory of the man, 1Co 11:7. If man is the head, she is the crown, a crown to her husband, the crown of the visible creation.

That the woman was made of a rib out of the side of Adam; not made out of his head to rule over him, nor out of his feet to be trampled upon by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be beloved.

Polish the crown of your husband and sparkle today.
