Look UP

Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak;
O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is greatly troubled;
But You, O LORD—how long?
Return, O LORD, deliver me!
Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake!

Psalm 6:2-4

LORD Jesus, we praise You for You are the One who is above all principalities and powers. Forgive us, O God we pray, whenever we lose sight of Your everlasting power. If You are for us, who or what could be against us? It is better to trust in You than to put confidence in man or riches. Guide us so we will look up to the One who has the power to save and to heal us. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen.

Notice that David went to God in prayer and told Him about his trouble. Did God not know about David’s pain? Of course He did. So why should there be any need for David to tell Him? David’s prayer did not happen so that God would find out what is going on, but it was for David’s benefit. Through the prayer he drew closer to God — no longer focusing on his circumstances but on God Almighty.

So pessimists look down and the fearful look around, but let the Christian lift their eyes and look up.

Alistair Begg

And F.B. Meyer reminds us that:

When God returns to us, because we return to Him, our enemies turn back.

Note, we need to return to Him! Life is not about us, nor about the ones around us. It is all about Him, Christ the LORD. He IS Life. And He has come that we may have life, and that we may have it more abundantly.

We should not become disheartened, nor should we focus on worrying circumstances. We need to direct all our thoughts toward the One who is above all — above all powers and life’s situations.

Look up to the Word that has come to heal you!
