What Are You Afraid Of?

“And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!
“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God.
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Luke 12:4-7

LORD Jesus, we praise You for You have said that You will never leave us nor forsake us and that You are with us wherever we may go. Forgive us, O God we pray, whenever we lose sight of what is important and of the One who is and remains in control. You are above all — above all powers, above all situations, above all sickness. Help us and guide us in Your way which is the everlasting way. In Jesus’ holy name we pray. Amen.

One week of the second lockdown of 2020 in Ireland is over. We have five more to go, it seems. Then what?

Can we look forward to a joyful Christmas time? Or will we have to endure another couple of weeks of lockdown — even throughout the holidays? How different Christmas 2019 has been.

Will this pandemic come to an end this year? How dangerous is this virus? Can we truly protect ourselves from it? Is there going to be a vaccination? Will it be safe?

The minute we turn on the TV we, in one way or another, expose ourselves to the bad news of the world being hit by Covid-19. If we do an online research about this pandemic, we bump into all sorts of views and opinions, conspiracies, and more or less false promises.

The internet is a great way for us to stay connected with friends and family while we are called to stay at home. We have to be careful, however, in the way we use it.

Getting our information through radio and TV, the internet and social media will soon overwhelm us — if we do not take control of what and how much we will let in. Whatever they may claim to be, secular radio and TV stations are not neutral. Neither is the internet. We can soon get tangled in the world-wide-web, and social media is known to censor information.

Now, worries lead to fear. They will rob you of your joy. Do not let this happen. I will write more on that in the next post.

Remember today what God’s Word says in Luke 12:7

But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Do not fear therefore.
You are of more value than many sparrows.
