Walking in Good Works

So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.

1 Corinthians 3:7

LORD Jesus, we praise You for this beautiful day that You have made. This is a day full of opportunities to walk in the Light and to share our gifts with others. We thank You for giving us these gifts and humbly ask that You will continually bless us to be a blessing to others. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.

It doesn’t matter if we own the best seeds if we are not planting them they will not grow. A huge well of water will not do good just sitting there. We have to make use of the resources God has given to us — including our gifts.

Good gifts are from above. (James 1:17) What is that special gift that God has given to you? Is it baking? Or are you gifted in playing an instrument? How about arts and crafts? Do you enjoy knitting? Are you able to create beautiful and useful things out of fabric and wool? How about cleaning and organizing? Yes, these are God-given gifts as well.

Whatever gift we are blessed with we need to remember that it is God who has made us and who gave us the gifts. All glory belongs to Him!

Talking about a gift all day long will not bring us any further; neither will studying a skill. An author has to write to become a good writer. The painter keeps painting, and the pianist keeps playing the piano to become a maestro. If a cook never cooks he will never become a good cook. We can study to find out more about a skill all we want. Unless we exercise our gift it remains useless.

Once we start using them we can find joy in our gifts. There is some danger in it, though. We love to take the credit for all of our hard work, don’t we? It was us who planted the seeds. We watered the ground also. Why doesn’t the plant come out and grow to bless us with its fruit? Or, why do we at times not get to enjoy the fruit the plant has given to us?

We have to acknowledge that the seeds and water are made by God and freely given to us. Then we have to take action: Get to work. Most importantly we have to remember that it is God who gives the increase. The fruit does not come forward by our doing but by His work. All glory to Him!

Make use of your gift, bless someone, and give glory to God today.
