Thoroughly Equipped

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

How can we be complete and thoroughly equipped in a time like this? We cannot do it in our own effort. Our own strength will fail us soon. There is just too much going on at the moment which will rather sooner than later overwhelm us.

Reading the first word reminds me of my former pastor who would say now: “ALL… everybody say ‘all’.” Pastor Rod always emphasized the importance of the whole counsel of God — meaning, the importance of all of the Bible!

Of course, there are parts which we like more and others which are hard to read and which we might not understand (yet). Still, we should be in the Word of God daily. It’s the Bread of Heaven and nourishment for our soul especially in times like these.

Matthew, one of our three elders and beloved brother, explained these verses so well yesterday. He said that the Bible is profitable for four things:

It’s profitable to teach me what is right. That’s doctrine.
It’s profitable to show me what’s not right in my life. That’s reproof.
It’s profitable to show me how to get right. That’s correction.
And, it’s profitable to tell me how to stay right. That’s instruction in righteousness.

He closed his teaching by saying that there is one thing sure, one thing is certain: It is the Word of God that equips the man of God to do the work of God. Beloved Sister, this is not only for the men. We, as women, should take that to heart as well.

Read, study, and pray the Word of God today.
