Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God;
For I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.
Psalm 42:5 / Psalm 43:5
Do we become alert whenever our soul is troubled? Or are we, for our own peace’s sake, trying to surpess what is inside? We get so busy, busy, busy — and neglect to deal with the most important thing: sanctification. Why are we so afraid to deal with our sins?
There are seasons like this current one that tempt us to cover up our hidden troubles. Right now, we don’t feel like dealing with what’s wrong inside of us! We just want this discomfort to go away and then we will be free to worship the LORD and serve Him without any distractions.
Sister, even in seasons like this one, you do find encouragement in God’s Word! Use this time wisely and draw near to God — nearer than ever before. Pick up your Bible, pray for your eyes to be opened and begin to read. Trust in the LORD Jesus and let HIM be your Strength and Peace and Comfort — and all things will work out together for good!
Let me encourage you also to spend (more) time in prayer. The Word says to Pray without ceasing. Pray to the LORD and share your deepest thoughts and fears with Him. If you don’t find words for prayer then read and pray the Scriptures. You will soon notice the healing power of peace and that you are finding relief as the famous hymn says:
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief,
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare,
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!
