Serve the LORD!

“Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD!
And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Joshua 24:14-15

While reading Joshua 24 this morning these words jumped right off the page. They are highlighted in my Bible, and part of them are engraved on the back of my old iPod. Joshua 24:14-15 were also one of the first verses we, as a former homeschool family, memorized years ago. They serve as a reminder of the importance to put God first.

The choice is ours to serve the LORD — whether we are free or pressured into lockdown, whether we work outside our homes or are stay-at-home moms. “But I didn’t ask for this,” you might say. Paul knew that persecution would come his way as a cost of following Jesus, but I’m sure he didn’t beg for it.

Yes, it is hard to keep social distance from others. Of course, we don’t take the fact lightly that we are in lockdown! We cannot, however, be moping around the house all day. It’s time to take matters into our hands and serve the LORD. How? That’s going to be the topic of my blog posts in the coming days.

Let’s commit ourselves to fear the LORD,
to serve Him in sincerity and in truth,
and to put away the false gods that hinder us to love Him completely.
