You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
Love the LORD Your God
The words of Deuteronomy 6:4-9 are so dear to my heart. Sunday after Sunday, they were read to our congregation at the end of the worship songs. We’ve heard them over and over again each time before the sermon started. And so they made way into our hearts.
4 Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God, the LORD is one!
5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
6 And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
The people failed to see how great of a God the LORD is. They were made free from their slavery and led out of Egypt to enter the promised land. But they did not obey God. They were rebellious and ended up in the wilderness — for forty years.
Whenever we keep our focus on the circumstances around us, or if we look back and long for times that have past, or if we simply want to have things done our own way, we lose sight of just how great of a God the LORD is.
Remember the works of the LORD! Say, who do you seek in the day of trouble? Do you think of His lovingkindness when times get tough? His promises never fail! Where do you find them? Open your Bible and read and see what God can do!
No matter the times — love the LORD Your God.
Draw near to Him today!
